OTHER COUNTRIES
In 1912, Nguyễn Tất Thành worked on a Chargeurs Réunis ship that traversed across Africa and occasionally docked in Spain or Portugal. One time, while stopping in Dakar, Senegal, Uncle Hồ saw such powerful waves that the ship had trouble docking. Non-whites were even ordered by the French to swim from the ship to help. The sight of workers enduring grueling labor and cruel exploitation imposed by the colonial rulers filled the national leader with sorrow and reminded him of the plight of his own countrymen. This heightened his sympathy towards the collective fates of colonized countries evermore.
